Steve Austria Kicks-Off “Failed Policies, Failed Politics” Campaign
Springfield, OH – Today, Republican congressional candidate for the seventh district, Steve Austria, will welcome Rep. Tom Cole’s (R-OK) support for his campaign by having him host a fundraiser and kick-off Austria's campaign to bring more of the same failed policies and failed politics to Washington. The fundraising event will take place at the Athletic Club in Columbus.
Recently, Rep. Cole, who chairs the National Republican Congressional Committee, has come under fire for his string of defeats dating back to 2006. Many observers attribute Cole’s lack of success toward his insistence on having his Republican candidates campaign on a failed Bush policy record and implementing a political operation run by Washington insiders.
The campaign of Sharen Neuhardt, Democratic candidate running against Austria, viewed this as a sign of things to come from the Republican nominee.
“Look out Ohio,” said Neuhardt spokesman Jim Alexee. “Steve Austria just kicked off his campaign to run the same old style political game that has been failing over and over again. Running on failed policies and a failing Republican strategy should cause great concern to Ohioans. Voters from around the country have been rejecting Tom Cole and what the Republicans in Washington represent. Ohio is ready for change; not more Washington malfunction,” concluded Alexee.

Sharen Neuhardt Statement on FISA Immunity Decision
Springfield, OH - The following is a statement by Democratic candidate
for the seventh congressional district of Ohio, Sharen Neuhardt
regarding the current compromise to grant immunity to the
telecommunications companies who may have violated the law through
their actions in providing wire-taping access to the Bush
Administration.
"I am opposed to affording any immunity to the telecommunications
companies who may have broken the law by their participation in
handing over information or granting wire-taping access to the Bush
Administration without first properly receiving permission through
FISA Court.
"I am hoping that before the current legislation makes its way to the
President's desk, members of the U.S. Senate will see that the
protection of civil rights should precede any special treatment for
any special interest. When the Patriot Act was first debated and
wrongly passed, the telecommunications lobbying arm kept quiet and now
they want to ensure that justice is silenced forever.
"As the daughter of a cop, I have great respect for our Constitution
and the pursuit of the truth. Any immunity that is granted before
giving the American people the opportunity to even uncover a violation
is a violation unto itself."
Race for 7th Congressional District is Diamond in the Rough
Neuhardt Holds Her Own
SPRINGFIELD, OH - As home to several competitive congressional races, and a focus for both presidential campaigns, Ohio is political ground zero in 2008. What no one ever expected is that Sharen Neuhardt's campaign for Ohio's 7th Congressional District would be the little engine that could.
A poll conducted May 27th to June 2nd 2008, shows that even though Neuhardt's opponent, Steve Austria, holds a 33% advantage in name ID, he just doesn't convert it into the easy win Conventional Wisdom has been expecting. In a trial dead heat, Neuhardt holds Austria to a very promising 6% lead, and then pulls into a 1% lead after voters learn more about both candidates.

SPRINGFIELD, OHIO - Yesterday Ohio Seventh District Congressional candidate Sharen Neuhardt was endorsed by the Dayton Miami Valley AFL-CIO.
"I am pleased to receive the endorsement from the Miami Valley AFL-CIO. All my life I have worked with Republicans and Democrats to get things done, and I look forward to working with labor and businesses to create and grow good paying jobs for the Seventh Congressional District," said Neuhardt.
"I am committed to growing good jobs and making sure children and families have access to affordable universal healthcare," said Neuhardt. "If you have had enough with the direction of our country, I bring an approach that creates real change."

Neuhardt Out Raises Opponent by $50,000
Fresh Voice for Change Gains Momentum With
Growing Democratic and Republican Support
Greene County, OH, April 15 - Sharen Neuhardt has once again shown her strength with voters as she raised $50,000 more than her Republican opponent, Steve Austria, in the first quarter 2008.
This follows closely on Neuhardt's upset win in the March 4 Democratic primary against a field of five other candidates.
Neuhardt, who joined the race on January 4, raised almost $173,000, 40% more than Austria's almost $123,000 in the first quarter.
Austria's fund raising data demonstrates he is the candidate of lobbyists and special interests, not individual citizens. Neuhardt raised almost four times as much from individuals as Austria, while Austria raised $200,000 from PACS and lobbyists, almost seven times more than Neuhardt.
Both candidates enter the general election with roughly $50,000 in the bank. Neuhardt will invest hers in fighting for change in Washington on behalf of Ohio families.
"We've got a real race on our hands. Those Washington pundits who think Austria's a "shoo-in" for the open Congressional seat in Ohio's 7th district are wrong again," said Jim Alexee, Neuhardt's campaign manager. Voters are demanding change and they are sick of career politicians."
"Sharen Neuhardt is committed to growing good jobs in the district, ending the war in Iraq responsibly, ending our dependence on foreign oil and making sure all Americans have access to affordable universal healthcare," said Alexee. "It's time for a change."

Neuhardt Scores Strong Victory in the Democratic Primary
Takes Message of Change to November
Miami Township, Greene County - Tonight Democrat Sharen Neuhardt, who entered the race just 60 days ago, scored a strong victory besting a field of five men to win the Democratic nomination in Ohio's 7th Congressional District.
Neuhardt beat Democrat Bill Conner, who was the Democratic candidate in 2006. "In November Ohio voters will have a clear choice for Congress. Washington is not working for Ohio families. It's time for a change and to end the partisan bickering," said Democratic Nominee Sharen Neuhardt. "Steve Austria is a career politician who newspapers have said ‘is not a good choice' and has ‘no compelling record.' I am someone who has real life experience and someone who will never give up fighting for change and to get our economy moving again."
