Energy Independence

Can you envision the day when the Middle East can't hold oil over our heads any longer?  And the average American’s paycheck isn't eaten up just heating their homes and driving to and from work?

When John Kennedy was President, he told the American people that we were going to dedicate ourselves to putting a man on the moon in 10 years, and we did it.  When the next President takes over in 2009, he or she needs to declare that our country will dramatically reduce our dependence on foreign oil and fossil fuels within the next 10 years and then put American tax dollars and ingenuity to work developing new technologies to do that.

Just think what we could accomplish if, instead of spending our tax dollars on the war in Iraq, we invest in making ourselves energy independent.  And how much more secure our country would be than it is today.

Let's challenge the American automobile industry to develop cars that aren't fueled by foreign oil.  Let's challenge the American power and energy industry to produce electricity with clean technologies.  And let's challenge all Americans to start thinking that their energy decisions aren't just a matter of personal choice, but instead their personal responsibility to help protect the future of our country.

Creating globally competitive technologies will mean new jobs in new industries and has the potential to revitalize existing industries, like our American automobile companies.  And in the process, we'll have a cleaner environment.  There is nothing stopping us but the political will to make this happen.  You have my commitment to working to make this a reality once I'm in Congress.
